Two Labour Defections to the Lib Dems |

On the day that nominations closed for this year's local elections, two labour Party stalwarts defected and joined the Lib Dems in Gosport. Mervin Bradley and Paul Keeley are now standing for election to Gosport Council as Liberal Democrats. The party received a further boost with the news that a former UKIP parliamentary candidate for Gosport, John Bowles, is also standing for the Lib Dems in the elections.
Welcoming the defections, Cllr Peter Chegwyn said they showed the Lib Dems are gaining real support in Gosport. The party will be contesting 13 seats. If the results in the last Gosport elections in 2006 are repeated this May, the Lib Dems will replace the Tories as the largest party on Gosport Council.
