Tories lose control of Gosport thanks to a 12 per cent swing to the Lib Dems
The Evening News' reported
"Gosport Tory leader Mark Hook admitted that the night had been 'disappointing'.
His
opponents laid the blame squarely on public opposition to car parking
charges brought in by the Tories 18 months ago. Since then, traders in
the town centre have said business has fallen.
Lib Dem Peter Chegwyn
said: 'The Tories must listen to the electorate and because of these
car-parking charges the electorate have given them a bloody nose.
The shock result of the night was in the ward of executive member Aleck Hayward, who was ousted by the Lib Dems"
